Faizabad Hydropower Plant Dam

 

The object of the present Contract is the implementation of additional exploration drilling works in the dam area of the Hydroelectric Power Project of Faizabad, on the Koksha River, Afghanistan. This power plant, financed by the German development bank KfW, is planned for the local supply of Faizabad. Client and owner of the plant is the Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW). Owner’s Engineer is Fichtner Consulting Engineers. The power plant is already under construction. EPC contractor of this project is Feka Insaat Construction, Turkey. Due to unexpected foundation conditions met the plant has to be re-designed. As a consequence, additional exploration drillings, mainly on the right bank of the Koksha River, are necessary. These drilling works are object of this contract. The main objectives of these drilling works are to gather information about

• The depth of the rock line and

• The permeability of the rock mass.

Resulting from these purposes, un-cored drillings in the overburden, cored drillings in the hard rock, Lugeon testing in the hard rock, LeFranc-Maag testing in the overburden, grouting of boreholes, and installation of ground water piezometers for long-term water level measurment are planned as drilling works.
